Thai PM confirms not to use forces to solve security problems

BANGKOK Dec 16(TNA)-Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva insisted that his government would not base its solutions to security problems on the use of force.
Abhisit said he also hopes national situation will return to normal in the near future and he will then stop the imposition of the executive decree on public administration in emergency situations and pave the way for the next general election to return power to the public.
In his speech on national security to open an event to mark the centennial of the National Security Council at the Army Club on Thursday, Abhisit said that existing security problems were connected to economic, political, environmental and social problems as well as issues along the border. Solutions had to be based on all the factors and the promotion of public participation, he added.
The Thai premier noted his government will not base its solutions to security problems on the use of force. It will promote understanding and ensure its security tools are reliable and not abused for the gain of any particular party, especially political parties which took turns to administer the country.
The prime minister also said that from now on security agencies would be proactive in their work and focus on solving the root causes of problems. Their solutions must be based on morality, good governance and public participation.
The prime minister said if the situation was stable and the executive decree on public administration in emergency situations could be lifted, he would monitor the situation for a certain period and return power to the public. He believes this course of action will relieve conflict.(TNA)
