Medvedev`s visit to India expected to yield over 15 bilateral agreements

NEW DELHI, December 15 (Itar-Tass) -- Russian President Dmitry
Medvedev's oncoming visit to India scheduled for late December is expected
to yield more than 15 agreements, Russian ambassador to India Alexander
Kadakin told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.
"The visit is expected to be unprecedentedly exhaustive and rich in
results. It is expected that more than 15 agreements will be signed on the
results of talks and in the sidelines of official ceremonies," he said.
"The documents cover a wide range of Russian-Indian relations, from
peaceful nuclear power engineering to ties in the areas of education and
culture."
"The main focus will be laid on boosting cooperation in the area of
innovation, where India has a vast experience that might be useful for
Russian programs," the Russian diplomat noted, calling for closer
cooperation in such areas as telecommunications, software production,
nano- and biotechnologies, pharmaceuticals, and technoparks.
"It will serve as a basis for mutually beneficial cooperation with
India, our long and reliable friend, for years to come," the Russian
diplomat stressed.
He drew attention to the fact that Russian-Indian summit meetings are
held annually. "Each of such summits has given a powerful impetus to
further development of the Russian-Indian cooperation."
The current relations between Russia and India "are distinguished for
their mature nature," he said. "The basic tendency of the recent years is
to deepen Russian-Indian cooperation in conditions of global dramatic
changes."
Ten years ago, he recalled, the two countries signed in New Delhi a
declaration on strategic partnership, which "has added innovation elements
to Russian-Indian ties and in international relations in general."
"Cooperation between Russia and India is currently characterized by an
unprecedented mutual understanding and trust. This is based on similar or
common priorities our countries have in their economic and social
development, in domestic and foreign policy, including approaches to
maintaining peace and security, to forming a new global architecture," the
Russian diplomat stressed.
"Over the ten years following the signing of the declaration,
cooperation between Russia and India has acquired a specific format, it
has entered the level of truly privileged strategic partnership," he
summed up.
