Cabinet nods for pay rise of government officials, senators, MPs

BANGKOK,Dec14(TNA)-The Cabinet approved on Tuesday (Dec14) a plan on a new salary hike of government officials, senators and members of parliament or MPs.

Rangsan Sriworasart, Director General of the Comptroller General's Department, said that the Cabinet has given the green light for a new pay rise of 5 per cent for government officials, and of 14.3-14.7 per cent for senators and MPs, and that his department has earmarked a budget of some 13 billion baht for the increased salaries of government officials and another 34 billion baht for those of the senators and MPs.

The Comptroller General's Department chief revealed that the new pay rise of the government officials will take effect from April 1, 2011; while Deputy Government Spokesman Ma-rut Mas-sa-ya-va-nich announced that the increased salaries of the senators will take effect next April, but those of the MPs will be effective after the next general election.(TNA)
