PM:VAT will remain intact for decade

BANGKOK,Dec14(TNA)-Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has hinted that Thailand’s value-added-tax or VAT is likely to remain unchanged, at 7 per cent, over the next decade.

The prime minister said that the Ministry of Finance would introduce tax-related measures to maintain or increase the government’s revenues as the VAT was likely to be kept intact over the next 10 years.

Abhisit acknowledged that the plans were part of the government's policy on balanced budget over the next five years--despite a projected rise of state expenditure to some three trillion baht within 10 years.

The premier revealed that to achieve that goal, the government would restructure revenue sources, trim its expenditures, improve revenue collections and promote joint ventures between public and private firms.
