Kushchevskaya case main suspect checked for other crime.



MOSCOW, December 12 (Itar-Tass) - A pre-investigation check is
conducted in the Krasnodar Territory into a fact of extortion of money by
Sergei Tsapok - the main person involved in a criminal case of the murder
of 12 people in the village Kushchevskaya, as well as by police officers,
the Investigative Committee (SK) told Itar-Tass on Saturday.
"The SK investigation bodies for the Krasnodar Territory during the
monitoring of information published in the media, have found publications
about extortion of 10,000 roubles by Sergei Tsapok on August 5, 2008 from
an unidentified man named Sergei G., as well as about the fact of forgery
- inclusion in an administration offence files of false information about
the use of narcotics and extortion of a bribe of 300 thousand roubles by
police officers in the Kushchevskaya district of the Krasnodar Territory,"
the SK said.
According to a representative of the Committee, this fact is recorded
in the register of reported crimes and so a pre-investigation check has
been organised.
"The check aimed at establishing all the circumstances of the event,
including the identification of these police officers, is currently
underway. A procedural decision will be made after the check," the SK said.
Twelve people - members of three families - were brutally killed at
the house of farmer Ametov in the village of Kushchevskaya overnight to
November 5. They include three girls - a nine-month-old, 18-month-old,
five-year-old and a 14-year-old boy. Nine suspects of the massacre have
been arrested: brothers Alexei and Yevgeny Gurov; Igor Maidanyuk,
Vyacheslav Skachedub, suspects of engineering the murder Sergei Tsapok and
Sergei Tsepovyaz, Andrei Bykov and Sergei Karpenko as well as active
participant in the crime Igor Chernykh.
Another two gang members - Vladimir Alexeyev and Vyacheslav Ryabtsev -
were put on the international Wanted List. The so-called Godfather of
Sergei Tsapok - head of the Kushchevskaya subdivision of the extremism
centre of the Krasnodar Territory police department Alexander Khodych, who
was put into custody for abuse of his powers, was also transferred to the
Krasnodar investigative prison.

.Medvedev congratulates Linguistic University on 80th anniversary.

MOSCOW, December 12 (Itar-Tass) - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev
sent a congratulatory telegram to the rector of Moscow State Linguistic
University (MGLU) Irina Khaleyeva, its teaching staff and students on the
occasion of the 80th anniversary since its foundation, the Kremlin press
service reported on Saturday.
The telegram says, in particular:
"The university is known in Russia and abroad as a major linguistic
and cultural studies centre. More than 30 languages are learnt here, and
tens of thousands of your graduates successfully work all over the world.
The high level of their training is the evidence of deep knowledge and
professional skills received in the Moscow State Linguistic University."
"The university is actively developing also today, it is expanding
ties with foreign institutions, including through student exchanges. It
participates in projects of humanitarian cooperation between CIS
countries, contributing to the formation of a common education space. I
hope that the successes of teachers and students of Moscow State
Linguistic University will remain a 'trademark' of your university also in
the future," the president said in the telegram.

.Kim Jong-Il inspects Pyongyang food industry enterprises.

PYONGYANG, December 12 (Itar-Tass) - North Korean Leader Kim Jong-Il
made an inspection tour of the capital's food industry enterprises, the
North's official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on Saturday
without specifying dates.
The general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) and
chairman of the State Defence Committee made the first stop at a flour
mill in Pyongyang, where equipment with numerical programme control is
installed. He praised the workers' collective, which has quickly achieved
increased volume and quality of products.
Kim Jong-Il set new tasks before the administration, workers and
engineers of the enterprises, including the "introduction of full
automation of the production process."
The North Korean supreme leader also visited a modern factory for the
production of foodstuffs, of which, in his words, people "can be proud."
Kim Jong-Il thanked the staff and workers of the enterprise, "who
established a large-scale production of high quality products for the
benefit of the people."
He also visited a restaurant in Pyongyang and urged its administration
to include in the menu "bigger variety of dishes, including delicacies."
Kim Jong-Il was accompanied by his youngest son, Kim Jong-Un - Deputy
Chairman of the Central Military Commission of the WPK, and his sister,
Kim Kyong Hui, member of the Political Bureau of the WPK, and head of the
Department of Light Industry under the Central Committee of the party.
