Mottaki condemns suppression of students in Britain

Tehran, Dec 12, IRNA – Iran's Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki on Saturday strongly condemned the brutal suppression of university students in Britain for their protest against rise in universities tuitions.
According to the Information and Press Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mottaki said that Iran is now closely watching developments in England including the British police's violent confrontation with protesting students.
“Much to our regret the incident occurred simultaneously with the International Day for Human Rights,” he said.
The so-called advocates of human rights and democracy cannot tolerate the voice of protests by cultural figures in their own society and did not hesitate to brutally suppress these voices instead of resolving the issue through logic and dialogue, he said.
Mottaki advised the UK government to exercise restraint in dealing with the social rights of its citizens and respect the dignity of human beings./end
