Bangkok to upgrade health services

BANGKOK,Dec11(TNA)- The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has announced an initiative to upgrade public health services at all hospitals and health centres under its supervision, starting from 2011.
Deputy Permanent Secretary for BMA Pirapong Saicheua said on Saturday that under the new plan, the city's hospitals and health centres will be further developed with more efficient treatments and healthcare services--although all its health centres have now acquired health centre accreditation (HCA) and its six hospitals have been received certified hospital quality assurance and accreditation (HA).
Pirapong acknowledged that all the BMA-supervised health facilities will be upgraded to become excellent health centres providing specialists in all fields to echo the Thai capital a smart city internationally.
The deputy city clerk gave some examples that Vajira Hospital and Charoenkrung Pracharak Hospital will open heart centres, Taksin Hospital will open a diabetes centre and Klang General Hospital will introduce its eye centre.
Pirapong noted that Charoenkrung Pracharak Hospital has already been recognised in laparoscopic or minimally invasive surgery with its 30-year experience in the field. In addition, the hospital also plans to open a burn centre with specialised facilities for treatments of major burn injuries and to even launch an autistic centre.
Pirapong said that the City Hall will also open a new elderly rehabilitation centre and hospital in Bang Khunthien area over the next three years--in which a research centre for ageing people will also be its part--to prepare for Thailand's ageing society in the foreseeable future.
The senior BMA official revealed that BMA would also control rabies by working with all other agencies concerned to provide vaccinations and sterilisations for stray dogs in the capital.(TNA)
