Pak analyst cautiously welcomes US recognition to Iran's N-right

Islamabad, Dec 11, IRNA -- A well known Pakistani journalist on Friday cautiously welcomed US recognition of Iran's right to nuclear technology.
Talking to IRNA Mazhar Abbas described it as a major development however personally believed that there is no major shift in the American policy against Iranian nuclear program.
US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Friday said, 'We told them (Iranian officials) that they are entitled to the peaceful use of civil nuclear energy.”
Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki termed the statement of US Secretary as a step forward adding that US must remain committed to this recognition.
“This is a step forward that even the United States [officials] admit to Iran's right to acquire nuclear technology,” he said.
Mazhar Abbas commenting over the development said that the move should be welcomed but ‘I personally see no change in the American policy against Iran’s nuclear program’.
The US and its allies accuse Iran of pursuing a military nuclear program and have used their influence on the UN Security Council to press for fresh sanctions against Tehran.
Iranian officials have repeatedly refuted the accusations, arguing that as a signatory to the NPT and a member of the IAEA, Tehran has the right to use peaceful nuclear technology.
Mazhar Abbas giving his opinion said the American stance on Iran’s nuclear capability is very clear and they have not yet reviewed their policy.
“We have to see that under which context U.S. admits Iran’s nuclear right”, said the journalist. “May be Iran has satisfied nuclear inspectors and that is why US accepted Iran’s right”, he said.
The analyst expressing his views added that Iran has made it clear that it would not give up nuclear rights in any case.
He said that revelations by the WikiLeaks has shown that U.S. is not the only country who is opposing Iran’s nuclear program but unfortunately some Arab states also feel insecure from nuclear program of Iran.
Mazhar Abbas criticizing the role of the OIC said that the body has not come up with a principled stance over the nuclear capability of Muslim countries.
He wondered if Israel has a right to nuclear technology then why Muslim countries can’t have that right. “Why is Israel allowed to develop its nuclear program”, he asked.
“It is very disturbing to see that some Muslim countries are against Iran’s nuclear program”, he added.
The analyst said unfortunately the attitude of Muslim world towards the American pressure is divided.
