Thailand observes Constitution Day
BANGKOK,Dec10(TNA)-Thailand observed the Constitution Day on Friday
(Dec10) when people from all sectors of the society paid tribute to His Majesty King Rama 7, who presented the first Constitution to all Thais.
Law makers of both Thailand's House of Representatives and Senate, as well as members of political parties and representatives of public and private agencies, students and the general public gathered at the Parliament building in Bangkok this morning to pay tribute to the Thai monarch.
Meanwhile, anti-government red-shirt people demonstrated on Bangkok's Ra-ja-dam-neon Avenue to mark the Constitution Day. The red-shirt demonstrators also held activities at the Khok Woa Intersection on the road, adjacent to Thailand's Democracy Monument, in remembrance of the passing of eight months since their mass rally against the Democrat Party-led government at nearby Phan Fa Bridge--which later turned into riots.
The red-shirts also called for the government to release their leaders and friends who have been detained in various prisons on charges of terrorism and violation of the emergency decree in the wake of their March-May protests in the capital--with their main rally site later moved to the Ratchaprasong Intersection.
Hundreds of police have been deployed to keep order on Rajadamneon Avenue. The police said they expected that some 5,000 red-shirt people would join the rally, and that the red-clad protesters would disperse peacefully without any untoward incident.(TNA)
