Tajikistan, Sverdlovsk Region intend to intensify cooperation

YEKATERINBURG, December 9 (Itar-Tass) - Tajikistan and Russia's
Sverdlovsk Region intend to break negative stereotypes, which emerged
between their economic entities in 1990s, the minister of international
and foreign economic ties of the Sverdlovsk Region, Alexander Kharlov,
said at the international economic conference in Dushanbe on Thursday, the
ministry's press service reported.
According to Kharlov, the most fruitful year for mutual trade after
disintegration of the USSR was 1995, when the trade turnover reached 74
million dollars. The following years were those of recession. In 2009
trade turnover totaled 21 million dollars. Clearly, the bilateral
potential is far from exhaustion.
According to the press service, the Sverdlovsk Region's companies have
good experience of cooperation with Tajik partners. Products on offer
from Uralvagonzavod, Uralmash and Urals Optical & Mechanical Plant are
very well known in Central Asia. There are good prospects for setting up
special joint ventures for the production, repair and restoration of
machinery at Tajik plants.
