Thai court drops 2nd dissolution case against ruling Democrat Party

BANGKOK,Dec 9 (TNA)-Bangkok's Constitution Court decided on Thursday (Dec9) to drop the 2nd dissolution case against the ruling Democrat Party.

The Constitution Court voted 4:3 to reject the case, reasoning that the legal process of the case was not properly pursued. The top court earlier dropped the first dissolution case against the Democrat Party with a similar reason.

The ruling party of Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva was alleged to have misused of a 29-million-baht electoral campaign fund provided by the Election Commission of Thailand or EC and to have failed to disclose a 258-million-baht donation from a private firm, a cement giant TPI Polene Public Company Limited, in 2005.

If found guilty by the Constitutional Court under the two cases filed by the election agency, the Democrat Part would be dissolved and its executives, including Premier Abhisit, would be banned from politics for five years.(TNA)
