Putin, Fillon to co-chair Russia-France commission meeting.
MOSCOW, December 9 (Itar-Tass) -- Russian Prime Minister Vladimir
Putin and his French counterpart Francois Fillon will co-chair the 15th meeting of the Russian-French commission on bilateral cooperation in Moscow on Thursday, December 9.
The agenda of the meeting includes "energy and industrial cooperation,
including in the field of high technologies," the government press service
said.
The commission will review the results of cross-culture years in 2010.
Based on the results of the meeting, the heads of government will sign
the final document that will "fix agreements in concrete areas of
Russian-French partnership."
In addition, "a weighty package of inter-governmental and inter-agency
documents and commercial contracts is expected to be signed."
"The period since the previous meeting of the commission in
Rambouillet, France, on November 27, 2009, confirmed that Russian-French
partnership has passed the test of the global financial crisis," the press
service said.
Bilateral trade growth has resumed. In the first nine months of 2010,
trade turnover between the two countries increased by 37.4 percent from
the same period of last year, reaching 15.9 billion U.S. dollars.
By the end of 2010, trade turnover between Russia and France may
return to the pre-crisis level.
The long-term strategy of cooperation between Russia and France is to
boost cooperation in science-intensive industries (aviation, space,
information technologies, etc) and investment. The scientific, technical
and industrial potential of the two countries makes them mutually
interested in implementing major competitive projects.
The two countries have made progress in implementing a number of big
joint projects, such as Soyuz-Kourou (commercial launches aboard Russian
carrier rockets from French Guiana), the participation of French companies
in the development of the Sukhoi SuperJet-100 plane, and the construction
of the Nord Stream and South Stream gas pipelines.
The participation of the French companies Safran and Thales in Russia'
s Superjet regional aircraft programme is of great significance. The test
flights have been carried out. This project is an important element in the
revival of the Russian aviation fleet and its access to the international
market.
Cooperation between Russia's United Aircraft Building Corporation and
EADS Group is expanding: there is a joint enterprise established for
converting А-320 and А-321 passenger liners into cargo modifications; The
United Aircraft Building Corporation participates in the building of the А-
350 aircraft. An agreement regarding supply of 22 long-range Airbuses to
Aeroflot has been signed.
The automobile plant Peugeot-Citroen/ Mitsubishi became operational in
Kaluga this year (the cosmetics company L'Oreal is finishing the
construction of a new factory in Kaluga; Avtoframos, a joint venture of
Renault and the Moscow City Government launched anew assembly line; Danone
and the Russian company Unimilk announced their merger).
Russian-French energy dialogue is developing dynamically. Gazprom and
Gaz de France have extended till 2030 their long-term agreements regarding
supplies of Russian gas. The partners cooperate in transporting gas to
Western Europe, including by the North Stream gas pipeline from 2010, and
implementing a range of projects in third countries. The participation of
Gazprom in supplies (together with Total) of liquefied gas to Canada is
being discussed. Gazprom's share in the French gas market is approaching
25 percent (1.5 billion cubic metres annually).
More than 350 measures were held as part of the Year of Russia in
France and the Year of France in Russia. The most prominent of them
include the exhibition "Saint Rus" at the Louvre Museum, an exhibition of
Picasso works in Moscow and St. Petersburg, the exhibition "The Art of
French Life" in Moscow, Russian film festival in Cannes and Lyon, a gala
concert of Russian and French ballet stars at the Bolshoi Theatre.
.First shipment of US cargoes for Afghanistan arrives in Klaipeda.
VILNIUS, December 9 (Itar-Tass) -- The first shipment of U.S. cargoes
intended for the NATO-led international mission in Afghanistan arrived in
Lithuania's seaport of Klaipeda on Wednesday, December 8.
"The cargo from the German port of Bremen has been delivered to
Klaipeda by a container carrier flying the flag of Cyprus," Klaipeda Cargo
Terminal Director-General Vaidotas Sileika said.
Port services have begun unloading the cargo. According to Sileika,
the containers will be put in a warehouse until the next shipment arrives
and until the customer decides on the route of further transportation.
"From Klaipeda the cargo can go both through Latvia and Belarus. In
the later case, it will take time to obtain permits," Sileika said.
In his opinion, the American cargo of 105 containers will leave
Klaipeda in 2011.
Only non-military cargoes intended for Afghanistan - food, water,
building materials, fuel - go through Lithuania.
