USA EMBASSY ORGANIZES BLOOD DRIVE

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ On Tuesday, the U.S. Embassy in Mongolia hosted a blood drive with the Mongolian National Transfusion Center. The Embassy staff, the Americans and Mongolians both, took a few minutes of their time to donate blood. In addition, alumni of U.S. government and exchange programs also participated as did American Fulbright students and teachers currently living in Mongolia.
Donating blood is a simple thing to do but it can make a huge difference in the lives of others. A British obstetrician preformed the first successful human blood transfusion in 1818, saving the life of a woman who was suffering postpartum bleeding. Since then, the need for a healthy and reliable blood supply has significantly increased. Blood cannot be manufactured, it can only come from generous donors. A single car accident victim may require as many as 100 pints of blood. A single blood donation may help up to three people.
The U.S. Embassy is pleased to partner with the Mongolian National Transfusion Center for this blood drive to "give back to the community in which we live", says the U.S. Embassy's web site.
