SELENGE AIMAG CELEBRATED HARVEST
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ One of the major agricultural provinces of Mongolia, Selenge aimag recently celebrated the new harvest gathered in frames of the national "Reclaiming Virgin Lands-3" campaign and named its bests.
Held December 4 event was attended by Minister of Finance S.Bayartsogt and by Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry T.Badamjunai.
As estimated, the country has gathered this year 366.3 thousand tons of grains, 169.0 thousand tons of potatoes, 90.3 tons of vegetables, 38.9 tons of forage plants. As a result, a desire of the Mongolians has come true to provide through own harvest the country's needs for grain and potatoes on 100 percent and for vegs 53.7 percent.
While realizing the "Reclaiming Virgin Lands-3” campaign, the agricultural sector has managed to run legal, economic, technical, and technological reforms, which made possible to fully provide the population with national production. "The program has given results in reducing unemployment and poverty," said S.Bayartsogt and noted that the Government took many important steps to support the campaign at national level.
On behalf of Mongolia's Government, the Finance Minister thanked all the farmers of Selenge aimag who have single-handedly managed to collect the harvest that made 52.6% of the total crop gathered nationwide. It means that Selenge province has collected 192.8 thousand tons of cereals, of which wheat is 173.6 thousand tons, and 45.4 thousand tons of potatoes, 30.2 thousand tons of veg, 15.4 thousand tons of fodder crops, and have ploughed 142.8 thousand hectares of lands.
