Thai PM Abhisit to visit Lao PDR Dec 9

BANGKOK,Dec8(TNA)-Thailand’s Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva will visit Laos on Thursday(Dec 9) for the official opening of Nam Tern Dam 2, and for upcoming celebrations to mark 60 years of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Laos.
Abhisit said Nam Tern Dam 2 is a project under the Lao PDR-Thailand cooperative framework, which will enable Thailand to purchase more electricity from its neighbour.

The Thai premier said that after the opening ceremony of Nam Term Dam, he will also hold bilateral discussions with his Laotian counterpart Bouasone Bouphavanh, followed by other events to mark diplomatic relations between the two countries. This would include the opening process to light-up the ‘Mitrapap’ or “Friendship” Bridge, into the town of Vientiane.
For this project alone, he said, the Thai government had granted complimentary funding of 21 million baht.
The Thai Premier also added Thailand and Laos have more projects to work on together. The rail network, for instance, in which China has extended its help to Laos, needs changes to the routing.
On his planned bilateral discussions with the Lao Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh, Abhisit said he had met the Lao premier on many occasions and the upcoming visit will not seek to clarify previous setbacks but focus more on the progress of existing cooperation plans.(TNA)
