ST. PETERSBURG, December 8 (Itar-Tass) - Hyundai Motor's industrial
park of independent manufacturers of automotive components is opening on
Wednesday at the Kamenka industrial zone (St. Petersburg). A total of
seven South Korean companies placed their production facilities at an area
of 24 hectares. They produce automotive components, starting from the
frame load-bearing metal parts to air conditioners and components of car
interiors.
The industrial park also includes the leading South Korean
manufacturers of automotive components Sungwoo Hitech, SeJong, NVH,
DooWon, DongHee and ShinYoung.
The companies have invested 4 million roubles in the creation of the
industrial park near St. Petersburg. At a ceremony of the plant's laying
down the Korean companies' management promised that at the first stage the
production volume will provide details for up to 150,000 cars, and then it
is planned to increase the production capacity more than 2.5 times. The
total number of jobs is expected to be about 1,000.
The creation of the industrial park was synchronised with the
construction of Hyundai Motor Company's automobile plant, which opened in
Kamenka in September. This enterprise is to become the largest in the
region. At the initial stage it will manufacture up to 105,000 cars
annually, and in the future the enterprise's capacities will make it
possible to increase the production volume up to 150,000 cars per year.
The plant in 2011 will launch the production of the Solaris sedan,
specially designed for Russian conditions.
Hyundai Motor is a major company in the Hyundai Kia Automotive Group
which is the world's fifth largest automaker as of the end of 2009. (In
2008, Hyundai ranked the eighth largest auto maker, without including Kia)
and the world's fastest growing automaker. Headquartered in Seoul, South
Korea, Hyundai operates the world's largest integrated automobile
manufacturing facility in Ulsan, which is capable of producing 1.6 million
units annually. The company employs about 75,000 persons around the world,
Hyundai vehicles are sold in 193 countries through some 6,000 dealerships
and showrooms worldwide. The Hyundai logo, a slanted, stylised 'H',
symbolizes the company shaking hands with its customer. Hyundai translates
from the word "modernity."
According to Hyundai's release, as a result of Russian automotive
market researches carried out by Hyundai engineers and marketers for a
couple of years, the Solaris car is equipped with many specialised
features that suit the local weather, road conditions and driving habits.
For long and bitterly cold Russian winter, rear heating duct, 4.0L washer
fluid reservoir with a fluid level sensor that warns the driver when a
refill is necessary and 60Ah battery for higher cold start performance are
offered as standard. The wiper deicer, front seat warmers and heated
outside mirrors are also available. Furthermore, in consideration of local
road conditions and driving habits, standard long-lifespan (1,500 hr)
lamps as Russian drivers tend to drive with lights on even during day
time, standard front/rear mud guards that prevent the car from being
contaminated by such car-unfriendly elements like dry calcium chloride for
snow removal as well as optional Emergency Stop Signal (ESS) which
automatically triggers the emergency hazard lights in the event of a panic
stop to reduce the risk of rear end crashes are offered.
Hyundai Motor plans to sell 85,000 units of Solaris annually in Russia
starting 2011 including the five-door hatchback model which will join the
line-up later that year. Hyundai is confident that the new sub-compact
sedan, with trendy and stylish design as well as vastly improved features,
will attract and satisfy young Russian aspirants.
