Thailand’s DSI to support government's request for Thaksin's extradition from US

BANGKOK,Dec8 (TNA)- Thailand’s Department of Special Investigation (DSI) announced Wednesday that it will support the government's move to seek convicted former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra's extradition from the United States.

DSI Director General Tarit Pengdit said that DSI, like all other parties concerned, are to provide relevant information to the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which has been officially authorised to work with US authorities on the Thai government's request for Thaksin's extradition.

Taris revealed that DSI is ready to provide information on terrorism charges against Thaksin related to political protests of the anti-government red-shirt group earlier this year.

The DSI chief's remarks were in response to reports that Washington's Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe or CSCE has invited Thaksin to testify on alleged human rights abuse cases in Thailand.

According to the DSI chief, movements of the red-shirt people will continue during the New Year festival, but they are anticipated to be symbolic and peaceful rallies as there have been no intelligence reports on any violence attempt.(TNA)
