Thai Government closely monitors ex-PM Thaksin’s movement
BANGKOK, Dec7(TNA)- The Thai National Security Council and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are closely monitoring the movement of fugitive former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra as he is scheduled to travel to the United States next week.
The Thai government’s move came after Thaksin's personal lawyer, Noppadon Pattama announced on Monday that Washington's Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe (CSCE) has invited the former Thai prime minister to provide information on violent incidents in Thailand, including red-clad protests earlier this year, extra-judicial killings of suspected drug traders by police in the then Thaksin administration and unrest in the restive South.
Ex- Premier Thaksin is scheduled to travel to the US on December 16, according to his close aide.
The Thai National Security Council Secretary- General Thawil Pliansri said that his agency and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have worked together to follow the issue, and the government's Centre for the Resolution of Emergency Situation (CRES) is considering whether to send any Thai representative to provide official information on the violent cases to CSCE.
Thawil affirmed, however, Thailand has kept grounded records on the red-shirt violent protest which cannot be distorted.(TNA)
