Iranian NSC official meets Russian deputy fm in Geneva

Geneva, Dec 6, IRNA - Deputy Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Baqeri met with Russian deputy foreign minister Sergei Rybakov in Geneva Sunday evening.

Iran has agreed to talks with the so-called '5+1' group (US,Russia, China, France, Britain and Germany) on the basis of a letter by Iran's top nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili sent to European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton on June 6, Baqeri stressed.

Jalili had urged Ashton in that letter to express her stance on Israel's atomic weapons program, he noted.

He also asked her whether she was going to adopt a cooperative or hostile position vis-a-vis Iran and whether she would pursue a policy of reason and logic towards Tehran.

The meeting between Baqeri and Rybakov focused also on Russian efforts to create a positive atmosphere for Monday's talks between Iran and the '5+1' group./end
