President opens railroad project in southern Iran
Tehran, Dec 6, IRNA – President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad inaugurated the construction operation of a railroad project in the port city of Chabahar in Sistan and Balouchestan province, southeast of Iran on Monday morning.
President Ahmadinejad inaugurated that project during a ground-breaking ceremony.
An official with Iran's Roads and Transportation Ministry said this railroad project will take five years to be implemented.
After being completed, the 1,350-km railroad will link Chabahar to the provincial capital city of Zahedan in Sistan and Baluchestan province crossing the provincial cities of Iranshahr and Khash. It will finally reach the holy city of Mashahad in the northeastern province of Razavi Khorasan.
The project would help develop eastern Iran and also facilitate rail transit to neighboring states./end
