Salehi: Iran self-sufficient in producing nuclear yellowcake

Isfahan, Dec 5, IRNA – Head of Iran’s National Atomic Energy Organization Ali Akbar Salehi said Iran is self-sufficient in producing nuclear yellowcake.

He made the remark here in this central Iranian city Sunday morning during ceremonies to celebrate delivery of the first domestic-made yellowcake to Isfahan Uranium Conversion Facility.

He said the yellowcake was taken to Isfahan’s UCF from Gachin mines in Bandar Abbas in southern Iran under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

He added that the West was happy with the self-made assumption that Iran might be unable to produce the material it needed but what took place today under the IAEA monitoring proved that Iran was committed to its international duties.

Salehi further noted that this was only the first step towards supplying the raw material which would guarantee continuation of supply operations to Iranian powerplants.

He said another mine in Yazd will soon become operational while activities in Ardakan yellowcake facilities have already taken up a new pace.

According to the official, the extraction, exploration and supplying of uranium mines will further accelerate in the future.

Salehi also noted that today coincided with the 7th day of martyrdom of Iranian nuclear scientist Majid Shahryari who lost his life in a terrorist operation in Tehran last week.

He said all international criminal and evil forces should be aware of the fact that Iran will stand firm and will disappoint its enemies./end
