Jordanian FM: Iran, major country in region, Muslim World

Manama, Bahrain, Dec 5, IRNA – Jordanian Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh said that Iran is one of the main regional countries and has a special status in the Islamic world.


He made the remarks in a meeting with Iran's Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki on the sidelines of Manama Security Conference which kicked off Saturday morning.

'Iran had always played a crucial role in regional and international conferences,' he noted.

Commenting on Iran's nuclear program, he referred to the viewpoint of his country's King and said, 'We have always insisted on Iran's right to peaceful nuclear energy and believe that the only way for settling disputes are diplomacy and dialogue.'

Judeh officially invited Mottaki to visit his country.

Mottaki, for his part, called for continued talks between the two countries and said regional convergence will benefit the region's peace, stability and development.

He proposed the establishment of a consultation committee by the two countries which was welcomed by his Jordanian counterpart.
