RK asks OSCE to denounce actions of DPRK.
ASTANA, December 2 (Itar-Tass) -- Kim Sung-hwan, foreign minister of
the Republic of Korea (RK), spoke at the OSCE summit in Astana, capital of
Kazakhstan, on Thursday and urged the OSCE member countries to denounce
the shelling by DPRK of the Yongpyong Island, belonging to RK.
"Taking advantage of the opportunity, I would like to mention the
recent incident, when North Korea opened fire at a South Korean island.
Four people died as a result of that treacherous act, and many more were
injured," Kim Sung-hwan said. "It was an inhuman and illegal act, which
obviously violated the U.N. Charter and the armistice agreement."
According to the RK foreign minister, the world community should not
tolerate such actions. It should denounce the steps taken by DPRK and urge
it in a most resolute way to refrain from such actions in the future.
He said that the RK government expected OSCE, as an international
organisation in charge of security problems, to assume a clear and
unambiguous stand with regard to Pyongyang's step.
