Victorian coalition officially sworn in
The Victorian Liberal-National coalition government has been officially sworn in by
state Governor David de Kretser at Government House.
Coalition Leader Ted Baillieu has become the state's 46th premier and will be
supported by Nationals leader Peter Ryan as his deputy.
The change of government follows Labor's defeat on Saturday after 11 years in power
led by former premiers Steve Bracks and John Brumby.
There will be 22 ministers in the coalition government, with only five members
having their previous shadow portfolios altered.
Mr Ryan will take on responsibility for regional development while new Tourism
Minister Louise Asher will relinquish the water portfolio to Agriculture Minister
Peter Walsh.
Mr Baillieu has also become arts minister in the new cabinet.
Mr Ryan has responsibility for police, regional development and bushfire response.
After being sworn in, the new-look cabinet posed for an official photograph with Mr
de Kretser in the state drawing room.
Mr Baillieu says parliament is likely to be recalled in the week before Christmas.
