ASTANA, December 1 (Itar-Tass) -- Kazakhstan's President Nursultan
Nazarbayev said on Wednesday OSCE's key goals for the next decade are
developing confident-building measures and closer integration.
"The OSCE's basic task for the next decade is to continue consistent
efforts to solve contradictions, build trust and integration, including
within the existing interstate associations," Nazarbayev told an OSCE
summit.
"As concerns the relations between the East and the West, it is
necessary to promote relations between the European Union and NATO, on the
one hand, and the EurAsEC (Eurasian Economic Community) and the CSTO
(Collective Security Treaty Organization), on the other hand. It means
that the trans-Atlantic integration that evolved during the 20th century
might be logically supplemented with trans-Eurasian integration," he said.
He also stressed his country hailed a breakthrough in relations
between Russia and the North Atlantic Alliance. "Of special importance is
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's initiative to sign a European security
treaty," Nazarbayev noted.
According to the Kazakh president, it would be expedient "to organize
work to forecast security problems." "As a first step, I suggest an OSCE
security institute is established and is located here, in Astana," he
added.
