SAS trooper hurt in Perth

An elite soldier has been severely injured in a parachute training exercise, defence
says.
"The accident occurred at Hillman Farm near Perth, Western Australia approximately
1800 WST yesterday (Monday)," Defence said in a statement.
The SAS trooper suffered very serious injuries, Chief of Army Lieutenant General Ken
Gillespie said.
Details of the accident were not released.
Family members have been told.
"Military parachuting is an inherently risky activity, but it is an essential
capability requirement for our special forces and airborne infantry units," Gen
Gillespie said.
Defence refused to speculate on the cause of the accident, saying a formal
investigation would be held.
