DIRECTOR OF MONTSAME TAKES PART IN OANA MEETING
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ The Director-General of the MONTSAME national news agency, T.Baasansuren has taken part in the 14th General Assembly of the Organization of News Agencies in Asia and the Pacific / OANA /, which ran in Turkey's Istanbul from 24 to 27 November this year.
At the regular meeting, which brought together heads of OANA member-agencies as well as representatives of other news agencies, a discussion has run on a theme "The future of news agencies in the digital age" within the scope of "News Agencies Meeting in the European Capital of Culture". Representatives from some 40 European, Asian and African news agencies have participated in the General Assembly of OANA. News Agencies of Turkic Speaking Countries got together on the sidelines of the above meeting.
During the event, “Istanbul Declaration" was adopted. Mr. Baasansuren said, "I think that is was an important moment of the meeting, for the document has reflected respect for intellectual and property rights, strengthening of cooperation among members and distribution of E-data. In addition to it, attention has been also paid to deepening a cooperation between the agencies participating countries in OANA and the safety of journalists."
Outgoing president of the OANA Dr. Ahmad Mukhlis Yusuf, the head of Indonesian News Agency ANTARA, congratulated the delegations of news agencies. Anadolu Agency (A.A) Executive Board Chairman&Director-General Hilmi Bengi has become the new president of OANA during the Assembly until 2013. Moreover, the MONTSAME news agency has become the Executive Board member of OANA. "I recall that the ranks of OANA MONTSAME came already in 1981, and in the intervening period, our agency has not been elected to the governing structure of the organization. Competition is at the option of a governing council was strong, for example, the composition did nmot include candidates of major agencies of Pakistan, Vietnam and Iran," he said.
He added that, in accordance with the decision, the MONTSAME has become the organizer of the regular meeting of the Executive Board of OANA in June 2011 in Ulaanbaatar. "The election of the MONTSAME agency a management team with 11 members is an important event for our organization and the greatest gift on the eve of the 90th anniversary of Mongolia's Agency," he went on. "The meeting also coincides with the 50th anniversary of the formation of OANA," said Mr. Baasansuren.
