PRESIDENT RECEIVES UN COMMISSIONER
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ The President of Mongolia, Ts.Elbegdorj recieved Tuesday the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and regional representative for oversees the affairs of Mongolia and China, Giuseppe de Vincentis.
"Our close cooperation with the United Nations High Commission for Refugees has begun in 1999. Varous tranings and workshops on Legal of Refugees was organized In the framework of bilateral cooperation, which is important for Mongolia," said the President Elbegdorj and thanked the UN High Commissioner Refugees for assistance provided for the Mongolian herders this spring during the zud disaster and for improving living conditions of border guards under the grant aid. At the same time, he mentioned that examines "the issue of accession of Mongolia to the Convention on the Rights of the 1951 Refugee Convention and the Optional Protocol to the Convention in 1967".
In response, Mr. de Vinchentisa noted a good level of the bilateral cooperation. He said the UN Refugee agency was created in 1951 with a view to protect refugees' rights at international level and to solve their problems. "In 2011, the Convention on the Legal Status of Refugees of 1951 will celebrate its 60th anniversary," he said and thanked for carefully examining the matter of Mongolia's accession to the Convention.
