Capacity of Bishkek bomb - 3 kilograms in TNT equivalent

BISHKEK, November 30 (Itar-Tass) -- The capacity of the explosive
device, which was set off in the central part of the Kyrgyz capital on
Tuesday morning, was three kilograms in TNT equivalent, Kolbay Musayev,
deputy head of the State National Security Service, said at a press
conference here on Tuesday.
"The capacity of the explosion was about three kilograms in TNT
equivalent," he said. According to the preliminary information of
specialists, if was set off with the help of a remote-control panel or a
mobile telephone. According to Musayev, the Kyrgyz security service had
information about the acts of terrorism being prepared on the territory of
Kyrgyzstan, and took measures to prevent them.
The explosion was staged to the north of the Sports Palace, where the
trial of ex-President Kurmanbek Bakiyev, some of his relatives and
associates had been going on for several days. A total of 28 people are
facing trial. They are accused of complicity in the shooting down of
participants in an opposition meeting on April 7, this year. Some 90
people died as a result of the shooting, and several hundred were wounded.
Bakiyev and five former senior officials are being tried ad absentia,
because they have left Kyrgyzstan.
"Unprecedented measures were taken for ensuring the security of the
trial.
This is why the explosion was staged outside the Sports Palace,
because it was impossible to plant an explosive device inside the
building," Musayev continued.
Marat Imankulov, secretary of the Kyrgyz Security Council, who also
spoke at the press conference, believes the organisers of the act of
terrorism had been trained at special camps for training gunmen.
