PRC and DPRK to discuss situation in Korean Peninsula
BEIJING, November 30 (Itar-Tass) -- The main aim of a five-day visit
of Chairman of the Supreme People' Assembly (SPA) of the DPRK ChaeThae-bok
to the Chinese capital, which begins on Tuesday, is to discuss the
situation in the Korean Peninsula.
As is expected, during meetings with the Chinese leadership, speaker
of the North Korean parliament will put forward Pyongyang's view regarding
the circumstances of the incident connected with the artillery firing by
the Korean People's Army on South Korea's Yeonpyeong Island in the Yellow
Sea last week, which sharply heightened tension in the region and created
a threat of a full-scale military conflict between the two Korean states.
The United States called on China to exert its influence on the DPRK
to make it refrain from further steps to intensify tension in the Korean
Peninsula. At the same time, Washington also hopes that Beijing may
promote Pyongyang's refusal from the programme of creating its own
missile-nuclear weapons and North Korea's return to the six-party talks on
denuclearisation.
