Iran, heavyweight in Mideast security equation: Safavi
Karaj, Nov 30, IRNA -- Top Advisor to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi said on Monday that Iran is the most influential country in the region and is considered a heavyweight in Middle East security equation.
Addressing a ceremony to mark the Basij (Volunteer Forces) Week in Karaj Teacher Training University, he said that Iran boasts of 2,000 kilometers of coastlines on Persian Gulf and guarantees the route for transfer of energy to the world.
"We are after political development and promoting strategic defense capability," he noted.
Basij has also made great achievements in the fields of science and research, he said./end
