SA men jailed over 'wild west' shooting

(AAP) - Two men who fired shots into an Adelaide nightclub have been jailed for at least two years for treating the city like the "wild west".

Giovanni Licastro, 33, and James Mills, 28, who is a member of the Rebels bikie
gang, pleaded guilty to aggravated endangering life and possessing firearms without
a licence.
In the South Australian District Court on Monday, Judge Rosemary Davey said the pair
had been involved in some sort of disagreement with bouncers at the club on October
19 last year.
They returned in the early hours of the morning and fired several shots from a car
into the Savvy nightclub and one into a neighbouring nightspot.
The pair were stopped soon after by police who found two semi-automatic handguns,
one in Mills' pocket and the other under the front seat.
Judge Davey said it was very fortunate no-one was hurt in the attack as four workers
were still inside the Savvy club at the time.
She said the shooting was a deliberate act of violence in retribution and had served
to terrorise the staff.
The judge said Licastro and Mills had wanted to send a clear warning that unless
they did what the pair wanted, they would "render lethal violence upon them."
"This is not the wild west," she told them.
"People who walk down the streets of Adelaide, even in the wee hours of the morning,
are entitled to believe they won't be confronted by gun wielding, violent young
men."
The judge jailed Licastro and Mills for four years and six months each and set a
non-parole period of two years.
