Thailand's manufacturing index rises for 12th straight month in October

BANGKOK, Nov 29 - Thailand's Manufacturing Production Index (MPI) in October rose for the 12th consecutive month after last year's world economic crisis, rising by 6.24 per cent compared to the same period last year, with average production capacity standing at 64.11 per cent, according to the Office of Industrial Economics (OIE).

OIE director-general Suttinee Poopaka revealed key industries which contributed to the MPI expansion include vehicle production, electronics spare parts, air-conditioners, plastic resin, and washing detergent. The production base for hard disk drives was slightly adjusted.

In October, the country's Manufacturing Production Index (value added) stood at 191.57 from 180.32 last year, or an increase of 6.24 per cent. Meanwhile, the Shipment Index stood at 194.08, a 5.32 per cent increase from 184.27, and the Finished Goods Inventory Index at 190.53 from 170.94, or a 11.46 per cent rise.

The Labour Input Index rose 4.94 per cent to 121.83 from 116.09, while the Labour Productivity Index was up 2.91 per cent from 133.46 to 137.34. (MCOT online news)
