Ahmadinejad: Ties with Turkmenistan brotherly, unbreakable

Sarakhs, Northern Khorasan Prov, Nov 28, IRNA – President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said the history, culture and beliefs the two nations of Iran and Turkmenistan share makes mutual bonds brotherly and unbreakable.

The president made the remark in the opening ceremony of the two major gas project in this northeast city in which his Turkmen counterpart Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow was also present.

He further pointed to the ever growing trend of bilateral ties and said the two countries were constantly increasing the scope of their cooperation in bilateral, regional and international areas.

Turning to the significant economic plans jointly undertaken by Iran and Turkmenistan, he pointed to the Iran-Turkmenistan railway project which he said would dramatically change the economic status of the region.

President Ahmadinejad further hailed the independent positions of Turkmenistan in its foreign policies and hoped the two countries also cooperated in industry and trade, marine issues in the future.

The second Turkmenistan-Iran gas pipeline was inaugurated in the northeastern city of Sarakhs in Khorassan Razavi province Sunday morning by the Presidents of Iran and Turkmenistan.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his Turkmen counterpart Berdimuhamedow attended the inaugural ceremony of the project which is to transfer Turkmenistan's gas to northern and northeastern provinces of Iran.

The 1,024-kilometer project was completed in two phases.
The first 524-km-long phase was commissioned last year. The second phase, which was inaugurated today, is 500 km long. Sarakhs is located in the northeastern part of the country, neighboring Turkmenistan.

Supplying gas to 16 northern provinces of the country, creating a new corridor for swap and transiting gas to East European markets are among advantages of the 1.2- billion-dollar project./end
