Riordan position untenable: Keneally

Bernie Riordan's position as NSW Labor Party president is "untenable" after he
failed to guarantee support for the party in March's state election, Premier
Kristina Keneally says.
The Electrical Trades Union (ETU), headed by Mr Riordan, declared it is prepared to
endorse Green, independent or even Liberal and National candidates in individual
seats.
Ms Keneally said Mr Riordan had since clarified that he will only support the
Australian Labor Party - but added that he had lost her confidence.
"This is not the type of judgment and leadership that one would expect from someone
in his position," she told reporters on Sunday.
"As a result he has lost my confidence as the president of the party. In my view his
position as party president is untenable.
"The comments that were published appear to contradict party rules."
In the latest edition of its quarterly magazine to members, Livewire, the union said
it would not be taking a "political approach" to the March 26 election, admitting
Labor was "highly unlikely" to win.
The ETU is one of the state's most powerful unions, representing more than 26,000
electricians and electrical trades workers across the state.
It has donated more than $750,000 to the NSW Labor Party in the past two years.
