South Korean arrested in Thailand on charges of using fake visa, swindling money in his country
SA KAEO, Nov 27 -- Thai immigration police Saturday apprehended a South Korean national at the Thai-Cambodian border on charges of using fake visa in entering the country and are preparing to extradite him to his home country to face further charges of defrauding people there, immigration police said.
Kim Dong Su, 52, was arrested shortly before noon at the Thai immigration checkpoint of Aranyaprathet border district while he was applying for permission to enter Cambodia, they said.
He was arrested after immigration police examined his passport and discovered that the Thai visa printed on the travelling document was a forgery.
Immigration police interrogated him and discovered later from the Bangkok-based South Korean embassy that authorities were looking for him as he had allegedly swindled money totalling approximately US$600,000 before escaping to Thailand, immigration police said.
During interrogation, Mr Kim reportedly admitted that he had cheated people out of money in his home country and is facing charges there.
He is now being detained at a police station near the Thai-Cambodian border for allegedly using a forged visa to travel to Thailand and will be handed over later to embassy officials to be processed for extradition, immigration police added. (MCOT online news)
