Bout's wife Alla says he does not intend to cooperate with US.
BANGKOK, November 22 (Itar-Tass) - Wife of Russian businessman and
suspected arms dealer Viktor Bout Alla has said that he does not intend to cooperate with the United States and will defend his fair name in court.
"I have received from Russian diplomats information about some of the
proposals the Americans made to Viktor, it is clear that any cooperation
with the US is out of the question," said Alla Bout. "All the proposals
made by the United States - they are not a humanitarian mission but fear
of a fair and open trial, during which many issues will emerge, including
wasted budgets, built careers and other details," she continued. "In
addition, I hope the US side understands that I'm not going to be silent,
I will speak openly."
"Moreover, the United States also understands that there is still no
evidence against Viktor, otherwise it would have long ago been presented
at the Thai court," she added.
"Viktor will go to court to clear his name from the lies, as well as
to punish those who call him "the merchant of death" without proof," said
Alla Bout. "We also discuss our steps to prosecute the filmmakers of the
Lord of War movie, which has inflicted enormous damage on my husband," she
said.
Alla Bout also called "tall tales" the information that Russia has
sent assassins to kill the Russians citizen, and that she and her daughter
are allegedly "held hostage by Russia." "This information spread by the
American side is another illustration of the US side's propaganda: they
have allegedly caught such a big fish," she said. "It is clear that they
want the show to go on."
Alla Bout also said that she was not sure now whether she will be able
to get a US entry visa. "I think they do not need my presence in New York,
because I'm going to talk, to speak openly and substantiate by information
with facts." "Returning to the Americans' logic, I should now fear for my
life in the United States," she added.
Speaking about the Russian side's participation in the "Bout affair,"
Alla Bout stressed that "the Russian government has always been polite and
respectful to the Thai government and the sovereign royal court, in
contrast to the American authorities." "The Russian government has always
insisted on the observance of law and exerted every effort to clearly show
its attitude to the proceedings and its position, and if it has not been
heard here, it is not the problem of our government," she added. "But now
I believe that the Russian government has the right to file an
international lawsuit against the government of Thailand for an
unprecedented violation of human rights - the rights of a Russian
citizen," she pointed out.
In turn, the Russian businessman's Thai lawyer Lak Nittiwattanawichan
noted that he will build his strategy on the allegation that "Viktor Bout
was simply kidnapped from the territory of the kingdom with the consent of
a number of Thai officials."
