Sydney FC still dreaming of finals action

Another win over struggling Perth Glory has raised Sydney FC's hopes of an unlikely
charge up the A-League ladder.
But striker Alex Brosque admits the reigning champions still have a mountain to
climb to turn their season around after helping the Sky Blues escape with a valuable
three points on Sunday.
Brosque set up one goal and scored another in a 2-0 win over the Glory at Parramatta
Stadium, in his 100th appearance for the club.
Less than a month ago, the reigning champions scored their first win of the season
over the Glory to end a dismal 10-match winless streak. Strong performances
against Brisbane and Newcastle followed, sparking hopes of a revival.
And while that momentum was halted by a 3-1 defeat to Gold Coast last week, Brosque
hoped Sydney could build further on their latest win.
"For us it all started against Perth last time we played them and we got seven
points out of the next nine," Brosque said.
"We dropped some last week, but if you look at the last five games we've picked up a
fair few points.
"So there is belief within the team that we can go on and have a go at it (the
final), it's just we're not in that position yet obviously."
Brosque said Sydney still had plenty of work to do after a poor showing for much of
the match against the Glory.
"Obviously the ladder doesn't lie, we're there for a reason," he said.
"We didn't start well but there is that belief and if we can pick up another win
next week, the confidence continues to grow."
Sydney are still second last after the win on 14 points, three ahead of cellar
dwellers North Queensland, who battled out an encouraging 1-1 draw with
front-running Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday night.
But Vitezslav Lavicka's side is now only one point behind Newcastle, Wellington and
the Glory and four points off sixth-placed Melbourne Victory.
The Roar hold a three point buffer atop the league over Adelaide, who returned to
winning ways with a 2-0 win away to Melbourne Heart on Friday night.
Gold Coast climbed into third with their thrilling 3-2 win over fourth-placed
Central Coast at Bluetongue Stadium on Sunday.
The table is deceiving however with both sides having only played 14 games to
Brisbane and Adelaide's 17 and 16 respectively.
Melbourne's Heart and Victory are fifth and sixth but have played two more games
than the seventh-placed Jets, who appear to be the league's big improvers after
Saturday's 1-0 win at home to Wellington.
