Brosque helps Sydney to 2-0 win over Perth

Striker Alex Brosque celebrated his 100th A-League game for Sydney FC with a
match-winning performance in a 2-0 victory over Perth Glory on Sunday.
After what had been a frustrating afternoon in front of 6654 fans at Parramatta
Stadium, Brosque turned the game late in the second half to give the Sky Blues a
much-needed win.
He set up Shannon Cole's 75th-minute opener with a pin-point through ball before
deservedly getting his own name on the scoresheet in the 81st minute after being
unleashed by Hiro Moriyasu.
And proving he'd really got under the Glory's skin, Brosque was again in the action
when Perth's Brent Griffiths was shown a late red card for a lunging tackle on the
striker.
Brosque's performance brought to life what had been a dour match, with a lack of
cutting edge in attack from both sides justifying their low standing on the
competition ladder.
The closest either came to finding the back of the net in the first half was in the
first minute, when a Michael Baird header appeared goal-bound before Sydney's Terry
McFlynn cleared off the line just in time.
Brosque was causing some hassles up front, but couldn't make anything of a couple of
opportunities from tight angles in the 20th and 25th minutes.
Sydney, who were already without striker Bruno Cazarine (back) and Scott Jamieson
(flu), suffered another blow when defender Stephan Keller was forced off in the 33rd
minute with blurred vision after copping a head knock.
The second half began much the same with Brent Griffiths and Adriano Pellegrino
wasting chances for the Glory before Baird followed suit with a good opportunity
after intercepting a poor Cole pass.
But Sydney's perseverance paid off when the Glory's tired defence was exposed twice
in the space of six minutes.
The win restored some of the Sky Blues' momentum, which was halted by a 3-1 loss on
the Gold Coast last week.
They remain in second last but now sit four points outside the top six, and only one
behind the ninth-placed Glory, who failed to build on last week's 3-1 win over
Melbourne Victory.
