Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan should be more active in joining Customs Union
ST. PETERSBURG, November 19 (Itar-Tass) -- Moscow hopes that
Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan will be more active in the accession to the
Customs Union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, Russian Prime Minister
Vladimir Putin said at the Friday meeting of the Eurasian Economic
Community (EurAsEC) Interstate Council.
"We hope that our partners from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan will be more
active in using the existent and prospective integration mechanisms,"
Putin said.
"We can see that Ukrainian friends have taken an interest in the joint
work. We will welcome a more active part of Ukraine," he said.
"Russia is ready to promote cooperation. We will act in the spirit of
partnership and will find mutually acceptable solutions," Putin said.
EurAsEC is the leader in post-Soviet integration, and "the Customs
Union is the major project, which has brought benefits to enterprises and
whole industries and sped up post-crisis recovery of national economies,"
he said. "Our next goal is the creation of a common economic space that
will ensure free traffic of commodities, services, capital and labor force
and a coordinated economic policy."
Putin singled out a number of issues on the agenda of the EurAsEC
Interstate Council. "First of all, we need to discuss the fulfillment of
EurAsEC development goals and to make plans for the upcoming period of
2011-2013," he said, adding that the partners needed an action plan.
The EurAsEC Court is another item on the agenda, Putin said. "This is
of paramount importance that the Community is forming its own specialized
instrument for settling disputes. Not only member countries but also
economic entities of third states will have an access to it. This
mechanism will promote sustainable economic development, trade,
investments and business," he said.
"The third item is the activity of the EurAsEC High-Tech Center," he
said. "I think we have made rather good progress. The center has approved
six innovative projects, which are being analyzed at the Eurasian
Development Bank and national venture funds. I am confident that the
number of projects will grow in the near future, and the center will
broaden its activity and involve leading research centers and business in
its work," Putin said.
