India, RF to hold regular meeting of intergovernmental commission.

NEW DELHI, November 18 (Itar-Tass) -- India and Russia will hold the
16th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on trade and economic,
scientific and technical, and cultural cooperation here on Thursday. The
two countries' delegations are headed by the co-chairmen of the commission
- - Russian Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov and Indian Minister of
Foreign Affairs Somanahalli Mallaya Krishna.
According to the Indian Foreign Ministry, during the meeting the sides
will discuss in detail the results of development of bilateral relations
over the period after the previous meeting held in Moscow in October 2009.
As the ministry's spokesman stressed, the two countries are connected by
really versatile cooperation - - in the sphere of defence, civil nuclear
energy, hydrocarbons, science and technology, space, economy and trade,
culture and other fields. In many directions our interaction has a great
potential. India and Russia take active efforts to further develop trade
and economic ties. Despite the global crisis, the volume of bilateral
trade increased from seven billion dollars in 2008 to 7.5 billion dollars
in 2009. This year, as the ministry's spoken stressed, this tendency has
remained. He recalled that Moscow and New Delhi had set the task to
achieve the volume of trade equal to 20 billion dollars by 2015.
As the ministry's spokesman stressed, India and Russia are connected
by friendly relations tested by time and based on trust, succession and
mutual understanding. These relations are among most important for India.
It entirely supports close cooperation with Russia.
On the results of the meeting of the intergovernmental commission, a
protocol will be signed. According to the ministry's spokesman, the
commission is an effective mechanism of work to give an impetus to the two
countries' cooperation and practically discuss all issues of bilateral
interaction.
