Government hopes to see Thai-Latin American trade double
BANGKOK, Nov 18 – The Thai government hopes to see the value of trade between Thailand and Latin American countries double within four years following the planned organisation of the Latin Business Forum 2010 , which is expected to take place on Thursday, according to Thailand Trade Representative (TTR) Vachara Phanchet.
He said the government -- represented by TTR, the Foreign Ministry, the Center for Study on ASEAN-Latin America Trade, the ASEAN Foundation, Thai Chamber of Commerce, and Latin American embassies -- will jointly host the Latin Business Forum 2010 at the Government House.
Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva will preside over the opening ceremony of the forum and the signing ceremony of the Thailand-Peru Free Trade Area agreement, he said.
The Latin Business Forum 2010 will serve as a key venue for Thai, ASEAN, and the Latin American business community to meet and hold business discussions to help boost the value of mutual trade.
It is expected the trade value would double from 220 billion baht to 440 billion baht within four years because Latin America is the region where the economy is sizable and people have high purchasing power.
More importantly, the region was not affected by the recent financial crisis, making it a good opportunity for Thai investors to expand their market into Latin America. (MCOT online news)
