Thailand's foreign arrivals likely to rise by 10% this year, says KRC
BANGKOK, Nov 18 – The number of foreign tourists visiting Thailand throughout this year is expected to rise by 10 per cent to at least 15.5 million, earning the country Bt536 billion in revenue, according to the Kasikorn Reseach Center.
The leading think tank reported that foreign tourist confidence has been rapidly restored since the political violence in Bangkok during April and May ended.
It could be witnessed by a quick recovery of the foreign tourist market in Thailand in the second half of 2010 despite an expected slowdown during flooding in many provinces nationwide.
KRC also projected unless there were further political violence, the foreign arrivals would continue increasing by 5 per cent to around 16.33 million next year, earning Bt555 billion in revenue.
However, Thailand’s tourism is unlikely to expand as expected if the various parties do not cooperate, particularly in building political stability in the country.
Should there be no divisiveness locally, it would help boost confidence in travel safety for visitors to Thailand. It could contribute to the continued growth of the foreign tourist market, which would earn the country over Bt500 billion in revenue annually. (MCOT online news)
