Family weep as accused killer faces court

A grieving relative of the Kapunda triple murder victims has told the accused killer
he hopes he rots in hell.
The 18-year-old man was arrested in the South Australian town on Tuesday, eight days
after Andrew and Rose Rowe and their daughter Chantelle, 16, were murdered in their
home.
He appeared in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Wednesday charged with three
counts of murder.
Before the youth was brought to the dock, Magistrate Bob Harrap told the courtroom -
packed with the slain family's relatives and friends - that he understood it was an
emotional time.
But he warned them that if anyone behaved inappropriately "people would be asked to
leave".
The thin youth appeared calm during the short hearing but many of the victim's
relatives wept or sobbed.
He did not apply for bail and his name and image were suppressed after an
application from prosecutor Rebecca Lawley.
Mr Harrap remanded him in custody until next Wednesday when there will be more legal
argument about what further details can be released.
As the youth was led away, one man shouted out: "Rot in hell you little prick."
Outside the court, Andrew Rowe's niece Kylie Duffield told reporters it had been
heart-wrenching to see the youth in the courtroom.
She thanked police and the people of Kapunda for their support of the family,
especially Christopher Rowe, who was on holiday when his sister and parents were
killed.
"On behalf of the family and Christopher, we would like to say thanks to police and
detectives for all their hard work and long hours over the last week," she said.
"Also, thanks to the Kapunda community for coming forward and helping us get to this
point.
"It means a lot to us."
After the court appearance Detective Superintendent Grant Moyle said the
investigation into the murders was still underway.
"I'd like to stress that it's still not too late to come forward with any
information that anyone has in regards to the murder of Andrew, Rosemary and
Chantelle Rowe," he said.
"To date we have received no less than 143 calls to BankSA Crime Stoppers."
Supt Moyle said he hoped the arrest in the case brought some reassurance to the
people of Kapunda and he thanked them for their support of police and other
emergency service personnel.
"Enough has been said about the tragedy that has befallen the Rowe family," he said.
"The matter is now before the courts."
