Russia`s space chief to attend int`l meeting of space agencies

WASHINGTON, November 16 (Itar-Tass) - Anatoly Perminov, the director
of Russia's Federal Space Agency /Roskosmos/ has arrived in Washington to
attend a 'summit conference' of heads of aerospace agencies of almost 30
countries.
The forum is organized by the International Academy of Astronautics
/IAA/ and is devoted to the 50th anniversary since the founding of this
authoritative organization aiming to consolidate international cooperation
in the field of space research.
Wednesday, the directors of aerospace agencies and the delegations
accompanying them will discuss the manned space missions, research of
planets and the Moon, the changes in Earth's climate, the monitoring and
forecasting of natural and manmade emergency situations and disasters on
the Earth.
According to the organizers, the aim of these discussions is to try
and reach broad consensus as regards international cooperation and
coordination at the highest level in these four areas.
Also, the participants will look at new concrete initiatives on
cooperation.
A source on the organizing committee said the IAA would like to stay
away from duplicating the efforts that the international space community
has already embarked on in the four areas under consideration, as its goal
is to facilitate closer international coordination of measures being taken.
Another important goal is to raise the efficiency of and to step up
support for global space activity.
A joint resolution of the heads of aerospace agencies will be taken at
the end of the forum.
Charles Bolden, the U.S. National Aerospace Administrator will address
the participants with a salutary speech and the directors of 27 aerospace
agencies will take the floor at the end of the day.
Each of them will have to fit his or her speech into a space of three
minutes. After that they will address a joint news conference.
Thursday, Anatoly Perminov and Charles Bolden are expected to have a
bilateral meeting. They co-chair a workgroup of the Russia-U.S.
Presidential Commission, which Presidents Dmitry Medvedev and Barack Obama
agreed to set up at a summit last July.
