Blaze could threaten Perth homes
Residents of a Perth suburb have been warned a bushfire poses a possible threat to
their lives and homes and they should leave or get ready to defend their properties.
Residents of part of North Lake in the city's south have been urged to stay alert
and put their bushfire survival plans into action.
"If you are not prepared or have decided to leave for a safer place, leave now if
the way is clear and take your survival kit with you," the Fire and Emergency
Services Authority (FESA) alert says.
A bushfire warning has been issued for other residents of North Lake, saying there
is no threat to lives or homes but they need to be alert, close all doors and
windows and turn off evaporative air conditioners.
A number of roads have been closed in the area and motorists have been urged to
avoid the area.
At 2pm (WST) FESA said the bushfire was moving fast in a northwesterly direction,
was out of control and unpredictable and spot fires were starting ahead of the
blaze, which had burnt through 35 hectares.
Two firefighting helicopters were assisting 40 firefighters to protect homes
threatened by the blaze.
