Vic Lib preference deal 'makes it tougher'

The Greens will find it tougher to win inner-city seats at the upcoming Victorian
election following a Liberal Party decision to preference them last, an MP says.
Adam Bandt is the federal Greens MP for the lower house seat of Melbourne, which
also contains a string of Labor-held electorates in the Victorian parliament.
He admitted the Greens now had a tougher job winning the seats of Northcote,
Richmond, Brunswick and Melbourne.
"It's going to make it much harder but we always knew this was a possibility," he
told reporters in Canberra.
Mr Bandt said the Greens would be telling Liberal voters in those seats to put his
party ahead of Labor.
But the Greens primary vote in some areas was quite strong, he said.
"There is no doubt this is going to make it much tougher. In places like Fitzroy,
which is in the seat of Richmond ... the Greens vote is 100 votes shy of the
combined total of Labor and Liberal party votes," he said.
The Liberals announced on Sunday their intention to preference the Greens last in
all electorates at the November 27 poll.
