Iran-Syria ties of strategic nature, Syrian foreign minister
Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Moallem said on Sunday that current Tehran-Damascus relations are of strategic nature.
He said that since the early stage of victory of the Islamic Revolution, Iran took a clear stand about the Zionist regime and handed the former Zionist embassy in Tehran to Palestine Liberation Organization.
Iran’s move clarified Iranian stand in dealing with Arab world, he pointed out.
Moallem said that there exits ample common ground to develop economic cooperation on mutual interest between Iran and Syria adding that trade has currently stood at multi billon dollars which has displeased the enemies and urged them to hatch various plots and conspiracies against Iran and Syria.
On Iran’s nuclear dispute with the western states, he said that Iran has repeatedly made clear hat its national nuclear program is of peaceful nature and joined the international community calling for disarmament of nuclear weapons in the Middle East region.
Referring to double-standard policies pursued by the West, he said the world has kept mum toward stockpiling of some 250 nuclear warheads and the nuclear facilities of the Zionist regime and much to our regret the international organizations have remained indifferent in this respect.
The gathering was held for the first time at Syrian foreign ministry hosting some 50 foreign diplomats based in Damascus.
