Iraq calls for parliamentary cooperation with Iran
Iraqi Parliament Speaker Osama al-Najafi said on Sunday that Baghdad is willing to develop special relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Al-Najafi made the remarks in a meeting with Iran’s Ambassador to Baghdad Hassan Danaeifard.
“We pursue to establish enhanced cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran based on mutual respect and non-interference in each others internal affairs,” the Iraqi official said.
The Iranian ambassador, for his part, congratulated Osama al-Najafi on his election to the post and conveyed the greetings of Iranian foreign minister to him.
Danaeifard said that restoration of security and stability in the Middle East region is interrelated and for the same reason Iran’s stability rests upon restoration of stability and security in Iraq and the entire region.
A number of Iraqi parliamentarians were present in the meeting.
