Russia to participate in Socialist International Council session.
PARIS, November 15 (Itar-Tass) -- The Socialist International (SI)
Council will begin a session at the Paris headquarters of the Organization
for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) on Monday.
The Socialist International Presidium decided on September 20 to put
three major items on the agenda of a forthcoming SI Council session,
namely the development of the measures for stable restoration suitable for
all countries in the world economy, the climate change and a forthcoming
conference of the parties to the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate
Change in Cancun, Mexico. The settlement of conflicts was also put on the
agenda of a Socialist International Council session in Paris.
The Russian delegation, which includes the leader of the Just Russia
Party and the speaker of the Federation Council, Sergei Mironov, and the
head of the Just Russia faction in the State Duma, Nikolai Levichev, will
participate in a session of the Socialist International Council.
Sergei Mironov will deliver a report at the session and will meet with
Socialist International President and Greek Prime Minister Georgios
Papandreou and OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurria.
The Socialist International Council holds two annual sessions.
Representatives of all the parties and organizations incorporated in the
Socialist International participate in the SI Council sessions. The
previous SI Council session was held at the U.N. headquarters in New York
last June.
.British military delegation to visit British WWI tombs in Murmansk.
MOSCOW, November 15 (Itar-Tass) -- A British military delegation will
visit Monday the war graves of British servicemen fallen in Russia during
the First World War, a spokesman for the Russian Navy told Itar-Tass.
"The delegation headed by British Consul General in St. Petersburg
Gareth Ward will visit the British war graves at the First World War
cemetery in Murmansk and the Vaenga military cemetery in Severomorsk and
will participate in a wreath-laying ceremony," he noted.
The British military delegation "will meet with Northern Fleet
Commander
Vice-Admiral Nikolai Maksimov at the Northern Fleet headquarters," the
spokesman added.
British servicemen, who were dispatched to the Russian Polar region
in 1917-1920, are buried in Murmansk and Severodvinsk. The local archives
do not have the exact data on the number of British servicemen killed in
this region.
.Days of St Petersburg to open in Oslo.
OSLO, November 15 (Itar-Tass) -- The Days of St. Petersburg will open
in the Norwegian capital on Monday in order to study the potential of
scientific and economic cooperation between the cities. The Days of St.
Petersburg in Oslo will last until November 16.
On Monday, St. Petersburg officials will have a round-table meeting
with the top managers of the Norwegian communications giant Telenor Group.
Then the St. Petersburg delegation will have negotiations with the
academic leadership of the Oslo University, which is put on the list of
the top hundred universities in the Academic Ranking of World Universities.
The St. Petersburg delegation will visit the Norwegian union of
industrialists and entrepreneurs on Tuesday.
The Days of St. Petersburg in Oslo and the Days of Oslo in St.
Petersburg became traditional and are held annually. The St. Petersburg
government and the Oslo City Council fixed the relations between the
northern capitals in an agreement on cooperation in 2007.
